When I’m styling a porch, I approach it much like I would an interior space, starting with the larger pieces and then layering in texture, pattern, lighting, and a few details that make it feel warm and lived-in.

How to Make Your Porch Feel More Like a Room

One of my favorite ways to approach an outdoor space is to treat it just like another room in your home. Start by creating a clear seating area and anchoring it with an outdoor rug. From there, layer in comfortable cushions and pillows, mix different materials and textures, and bring in greenery to soften the space.

Then think about ambiance. A combination of overhead or string lighting with smaller accent lights creates that warm, layered glow that makes you want to stay outside a little longer. And don’t be afraid to mix and match rather than buying an entire matching furniture set. The collected layers are what make a porch feel personal and inviting.
