Faux wreaths can be so tricky to find. They either look fake, a little tacky, or they’re expensive and still not quite what you’re looking for.

But today, I’m going to break it all down so you don’t have to second guess it.

What Makes a Faux Wreath Look Fake

It honestly feels like there are more fake-looking wreaths out there than good ones, and that can be so frustrating.

Either they’re too sparse, the greenery looks plastic, or the florals feel completely off. Sometimes a wreath might have one good quality, but everything else just falls flat.

So let’s break down what really makes faux wreaths look fake, so you can easily spot it when you’re shopping.

1. Too perfectly shaped

You don’t want something that looks overly perfect. Think about nature, nothing is perfectly symmetrical.

The more organic, the better. Greenery should vary in length, and florals should have different sizes and movement. That’s what creates a more natural look.

2. Overly shiny leaves

This is one of the biggest giveaways.

If the leaves look shiny, plastic, or overly stiff, it immediately feels artificial. And on the flip side, if they’re too flimsy and fabric-like with no structure, that doesn’t help either.

You know it when you see it, it just looks manufactured.

3. No variation in greenery

We can all spot an artificial color.

Even when florals are colorful in nature, they still have variation. If everything looks overly saturated or flat, it’s going to feel fake.

What to Look For Instead

Now let’s flip it! Here’s what you actually want to look for. And honestly, it doesn’t need to be complicated.

1. Fullness with movement

A full wreath always looks better, but it shouldn’t feel stiff.

Look for pieces that have movement, where the greenery and florals vary in size and placement. You want it to feel a little whimsical and not overly structured.

2. Mixed greenery types

Nature is never just one thing.

Mixing eucalyptus, olive branches, baby’s breath, or even soft florals creates a more curated and layered look.

The more variation, the more natural it will feel.

3. Subtle color variation

This is what creates depth.

When you have slight differences in tone, it creates shadows and highlights, which gives that almost three-dimensional look. It breaks up the uniformity that cheaper wreaths tend to have.

4. Slightly imperfect shape

Again, nothing in nature is perfect.

A slightly uneven or looser shape actually helps the wreath feel more natural and less manufactured.

Simple Ways to Style Faux Wreaths

Faux wreaths aren’t just for front doors, there are so many simple ways to use them throughout your home.

1. Front door

Of course, this is the most common place.

If you want to make it feel a little more unique, you can add a ribbon or even tuck in a few stems to change it out seasonally.

2. Interior doors

Wreaths aren’t just for exterior doors; they can be such a simple way to add a little extra detail inside your home.

I love using them on interior doors, especially in spaces like a laundry room, pantry, or even a bedroom. It adds a soft layer of texture and makes the space feel a little more styled without doing much at all.

Something I love to do during the holiday season is layering mini faux wreaths on top of artwork and picture frames.

You can keep it really simple with a greenery wreath, or switch it out seasonally depending on the look you’re going for.

It’s one of those small touches that makes a space feel more thoughtful and finished.

3. Layered with mirrors indoors

Layering a wreath over a mirror, especially in an entry, is such an easy way to add dimension.

I especially love this during the holidays, but it works year-round depending on the style you choose.

4. Above a range or hood

This is such an underrated spot.

Adding a wreath above a range or hood brings in a touch of greenery and helps soften the space.

5. Paired with planters

Another fun way to use them is layering them with planters.

Instead of hanging it, place the wreath flat on top of a planter, and set a plant on top. It adds texture, fullness, and gives you a chance to mix and match.

As you can see, something as simple as a faux wreath can make such a big impact.

From your front door to different areas throughout your home, it’s an easy way to bring in a natural, layered feel without overcomplicating things.

And the best part is, you can swap them out seasonally to keep your space feeling fresh while still staying true to your overall style.

Sometimes it really is the smallest details that make a space feel more thoughtful, intentional, and put together.

Seasonal Porch Maintenance and Styling Checklist

Even when you choose faux wreaths that look real, it’s easy for your porch to start feeling a little unfinished over time.

Because it’s not about constantly adding more, it’s about knowing what to refresh, adjust, and update as the seasons change.

That’s exactly why I created this Seasonal Porch Maintenance & Styling Checklist.

It walks you through simple, intentional updates so your front porch continues to feel cohesive, styled, and welcoming throughout the year, without overthinking every detail.

From swapping out small elements like wreaths to keeping everything feeling balanced, this gives you a clear plan to follow so your outdoor space always feels pulled together.

Faux Wreath FAQs

Look for mixed greenery types, natural color variation, and fullness with some movement. Avoid wreaths that look overly shiny, too perfectly shaped, or have flat, uniform color.

Faux wreaths can be styled in several places throughout your home, including layered over mirrors, above a range or hood, or even as part of a tabletop or planter arrangement.

Faux wreaths can be a great investment because they can be reused year after year. When you choose a high-quality wreath that looks realistic, it becomes an easy way to refresh your space without constantly buying new decor.

Start with a wreath that complements your home’s color palette, then consider layering it with planters, a doormat, or subtle seasonal accents. Keeping the styling simple helps it feel more natural and intentional.

A standard 24-inch wreath works well for most front doors, but larger doors can handle 26–30 inches for a more impactful look.
