One of my favorite parts of traveling is noticing the homes, architecture, and design details that make a place feel unique.
During our recent trip to Bar Harbor, Maine, I found myself constantly admiring the historic homes, charming inns, aged materials, and collected interiors that seemed to tell a story. There was a warmth and character to these spaces that felt timeless and inviting.
While I couldn’t bring the beautiful architecture or ocean views home with me, I definitely came home inspired.
These favorite finds capture some of the historic coastal charm that I fell in love with during our trip. Think warm wood tones, vintage-inspired pieces, brass accents, natural textures, and subtle coastal influences that feel collected rather than overly themed.
If you love homes with character, I think you’ll love these finds just as much as I do.
1. Floor Lamp
Good lighting instantly makes a home feel warm and inviting, and I love the timeless shape of this floor lamp. The classic silhouette and neutral shade feel like something you might find in a charming historic home while still working beautifully in a more modern space.
2. Brass Candlesticks
There is something about brass that never goes out of style.
These candlesticks add warmth, character, and a collected feel to a space. Whether styled on a dining table, mantel, or console table, they bring that extra layer that makes a home feel thoughtfully curated.
3. Lobster Artwork
I couldn’t create a Maine-inspired collection without including a subtle nod to the coast.
What I love most about this piece is that it feels elevated rather than overly nautical. The vintage-inspired frame and classic illustration bring in just enough coastal charm while still feeling sophisticated and timeless.
4. Accent Chair
This chair immediately caught my eye because of its classic shape and beautiful texture.
The neutral upholstery keeps it versatile, while the darker frame adds contrast and character. It’s the type of piece that feels as though it has always belonged in a room.
5. Round Wooden Side Table
Warm wood tones were everywhere throughout the historic homes and inns we saw, and this side table reminds me of that same timeless charm.
Its classic shape feels collected and refined, making it a beautiful addition to traditional, transitional, and coastal-inspired spaces alike.
6. Floral Stripe Pillow
This pillow combines two things I love: timeless stripes and vintage-inspired florals.
The soft blue tones offer a subtle nod to the coast while the pattern adds personality and charm. It’s an easy way to introduce a little historic coastal character without completely changing the look of a room.
7. Vintage Inspired Rug
I love vintage-inspired rugs.
This one immediately reminded me of the layered, collected interiors I saw throughout Maine. The muted color palette and worn-in look add instant character and help a space feel welcoming and lived in.
One of the things I loved most about Maine was how every home, inn, and historic building seemed to have a story to tell. Nothing felt overly perfect or overly designed. Instead, the spaces felt layered, collected, and full of character.
That’s something I think we can all bring into our own homes.
Whether it’s a vintage-inspired rug, a warm wood table, aged brass accents, or artwork that reminds you of a favorite place, the pieces we choose help tell our stories and create homes that feel uniquely ours.
I hope these finds inspire you to bring a little historic coastal charm into your own home.
