This post is all about last minute Christmas decorations.
Lately, I’ve been putting the finishing touches on my own home, like adding small wreaths, tying velvet bows here and there, and I even decided to put up a small tree in my office so I can enjoy a little festive glow while I work. Your home is likely already decorated and ready to welcome the season too.
None of these additions to my home is big or elaborate. They’re just simple, subtle touches that bring me a little more Christmas joy. And isn’t that exactly what those small moments are supposed to do? They’re not meant to add more work or stress to your plate; they’re meant to enhance your home, your happiness, and your day in the midst of the busyness this season brings.
So today, I’m sharing a few subtle, last-minute touches you can add to your Christmas decor. It’s nothing overwhelming, just thoughtful layers that bring joy and help you welcome the season in style.
Adding simple touches to unexpected places helps to really tie the entire look together, creating even more festive charm that are found in the small details.
Ways to add subtle last minute christmas decorations into your holiday decor
1. Elevate With Bows
Tie bows on wreaths, sconces, reindeer figurines, garland, or anywhere that needs a soft, festive touch. It’s such a cute, simple touch that adds an instant pop of color and texture.
2. Incorporate Dried Fruit
Dried oranges look beautiful on the tree, tucked into garlands, or tied onto wrapped gifts. They’re inexpensive, smell amazing, and are so nostalgic.
3. Create A Cozy Ambience With Candles
Holiday candles bring the entire space together and create instant ambiance with their scent and glow. Think balsam fir (my favorite), sugar cookie, or cinnamon. The aroma alone makes your home feel extra cozy.
4. Hang Mini Wreaths In Unexpected Places
Hang small wreaths on counter stools, artwork, or picture frames. These small touches bring so much holiday flair to areas that often get overlooked. They’re simple, but have a high impact.
5. Simple Bowl of Ornaments
Place ornaments in a bowl or glass votive that matches your color palette. It adds a beautiful, festive, and effortless touch.
6. refresh With seasonal greenery
Swap everyday greenery for pine or eucalyptus stems. You can even add tree picks to enhance your garlands, vases, or arrangements. This simple update instantly makes your home feel holiday-ready.
7. Add Warmth With christmas bells
Incorporate bells into wreaths, garlands, swags, and fireplaces. The metal finish adds warmth and a touch of classic Christmas charm.
8. Sweeten The Space with candy dishes
Set out a festive candy dish with Christmas candy or cookies. I have a little glass snowman I fill with red and green M&Ms. It’s a sweet touch that’s both decorative and edible.
This time of year can quickly slip away from us. It’s that mix of trying to do it all, wanting to be festive, and also trying to slow down enough to soak it all in. And I know I’m not the only one doing the last-minute shuffle of gifts, plans, and “what dish should I bring?”
Every year, I tell myself to slow down, take time to enjoy what’s around me, and spend more intentional time with friends and family. But no matter how hard I try, the time never seems to slow down for me.
And if you feel that way too, that’s okay. There isn’t enough time in the day for everything, but remember that the magic is still there, no matter how you decorate, or which traditions you do or don’t keep.
So, here’s your reminder (and mine) to find beauty in the simple things. Slow down where you can and notice the moments that truly matter, because the magic of this season doesn’t depend on perfection. It’s found in the small, quiet things we do with love.
Sometimes, the smallest details make the biggest impact, and they remind us of the true meaning and beauty of this season.
